Cork is an environmentally friendly, green resource for flooring, easy to maintain, provides thermal and acoustic insulation, it’s comfortable to walk on, provides a unique design, and is extremely durable, but it is also a practical choice for many homeowners. It offers a very pleasant surface for walking on, yielding but firm. It is waterproof, which is why it has been used as a bottle stopper for hundreds of years.
Cork is a wonderful natural product that offers great insulation properties. Cork flooring has been reinvented as a pre finished tile, with much less need for sanding or polishing after installation. Cork flooring is a sustainable choice, not only because it’s a by-product of wine corks but it’s one of nature’s few renewable resources. Cork flooring made of panels or tiles should last a long time if properly maintained, but occasionally it will need to be sanded if it has become scratched or damaged.

Cork Tile Renovation
Modern technology sources have been unable to match cork’s durability, strength, and natural elasticity, making it one of the best natural flooring choices. It is a natural insulator and will help keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Cork is resistant to mold, mildew, and fungus, so you will not have to worry about that sort of contamination.
A cork floor is sanded as you would any hardwood floor with tiles, with the notable exception of a floor that has a veneer on top of the cork base. Cork re-sanding does tend to throw out a bit more dust than when sanding traditional timber floors due to the composition of Cork but we offer a dust-free service for your Cork floors! We understand you’re looking for a professional, budget-friendly experience that will result in a stunning finish to your hardwood timber or cork flooring. In recent years more choices have become available.
We do traditional cork floors and cork floating floors. Floating cork flooring is pre-finished before installation. For more information, please contact us!
Painting the Cork tile flooring
Once the repairs and preparation of the floor are complete, you may start the restoration. When the flooring is dry you then need to apply a coat of polyurethane by using a paint roller.
Choose polyurethane sealant which is designed for use on cork flooring. Vacuum to remove the dust and abrasives on the floor. Occasionally a satisfactory result can be achieved with a specialized scrubbing machine and high-pressure washer along with specialized cleaning chemicals. Do not paint cork without first applying a sealer.
The sealer prevents the cork from absorbing paint, which can cause the cork colour to bleed through the paint finish. Dump paint sealer into an empty five-gallon bucket. Thoroughly stir the sealer with a stir stick. Oil-based sealer, or shellac, works best for sealing cork wood, but you can also use a latex primer.
Pour a small quantity of degreaser on the floor. If you want a non-toxic and efficient product, use Finitec’s Surface Preparation product that works incredibly well.
Cork safety flooring

When you look through different available materials, Cork is a diverse flooring material, and when professionally treated and maintained, it can last many years. Cork in its natural state has resistance to fire; however, depending on what type of finish you use it can affect the fire resistance ability of your cork flooring.
These unique qualities make cork safety flooring one of the safest and most reliable flooring choices, whatever your function. The fire resistance is classified based on energy and smoke contributions. In what concerns energy contribution for floor covering the best classification is A1 (no flammable) and the worst is D. Smoke contribution is classified in two levels – s1 and s2- being s1 the best. usually, cork is somehow fire-resistant, mostly when cork burns it does not release toxic gases.
Alchemist Cork Tile Sanding
If you are seeking a warm, environmentally friendly, durable flooring solution, consider cork flooring. When your floors are beginning to look dull, or when they become scratched and worn, it’s time to start thinking about a re-coat. With timely, proper sealing and routine maintenance, your cork floors will last a lifetime.
For a better resistance, we recommend to apply 2 coats of finish. simply use a fine grade sand paper and lightly sand the cork surface. Be sure to only sand in one direction and avoid sanding in a circular motion. After sanding, wipe the sanded area agressively with a slightly dampened soft clean cloth which will allow the sanded area to blend well with the rest of your board.
